The role of information technology has now been included in almost every field of science, not least in the field of medical science. It is expected that with the development of technology in the field of medicine and health as well as more advanced information and communication technology (ICT), access to public information is open to broad.
Communities also need to find sources of information correctly, so that the general public will be protected from information that is not correct and less accurate, particularly information to health and medicine.
With a premise like that several institutions got together and founded the Society of Medical Informatics / Health Indonesia (PIKIN) the inauguration took place on 7 April 2005 held at the Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia. This society has a vision and goal to provide education to the general public that will optimally to enhance public participation in policy implementation in the field of health / medicine.
PIKIN has some future plans that incorporate the role of technology in medicine, such as building a data center and the field of information health / medicine by involving several experts in their fields, such as academic medicine, dentistry, public health, nursing, pharmaceutical industry, psychology, and of course the information technology experts as well as other related fields. The hope of all data collected will be used by the entire community is easy, for example, can be accessed through the website or in the form of plans, such as writing articles in the print media, talk shows, and organizing symposia and seminars.
